GIFT IDEAS FOR GRIEVING FAMILIES

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support

Abigail's Hope

Thank you for taking the time to read this.  It may not seem like it but there are many ways that you can be there to support and love the dear family who has just lost their baby.  One question we keep hearing is what to gift other than flowers.

Here is a list of gift ideas that were found to be helpful through pregnancy and infant loss:

For Mom

  • Tea - No More Milk Tea, Chamomile, St. John's Wort Blues Away
  • Necklace or other form of jewelry with child or children's name on it
  • Bath salts
  • CD with songs of comfort
  • Essential oils - lavender or another favorite of theirs
  • Consider gifting them supplies for whatever their hobby is to help keep them busy.  This could be yarn for knitters and crocheters, fabric for sewers, scrapbooking supplies for those that scrapbook and any other craft item to add to their supply.
  • For the first 1-2 weeks postpartum - consider No More Milk Tea, peppermint essential oil, nursing pads, tight sports bra, green cabbage and anything else you can think of to help them when their milk supply comes in and as their body continues to heal physically.

For Family -

  • Books (see the recommended books tab for ideas)
  • Ornament with their Heaven baby's name on it
  • Plant, tree or flowers that can be planted in their yard
  • Gift card to restaurant or join their meal train
  • Adult coloring book with colored pencils - coloring books have been found to be a form of therapy
  • Anything with their Heaven child's name on it that they can put around their home
  • Gift card for them to create a photo book of their time with their Heaven baby

For Siblings

  • Teddy bear or blanket in remembrance of their Heaven sibling
  • Jewelry with their sibling's name on it, if old enough
  • Journal for older children
  • Coloring book or other craft toy for younger siblings
